Coming off a 5-0 win in the MAAC Semifinals against Bryant University, the Quinnipiac field hockey team gave a strong defensive effort to earn a 1-0 victory over Robert Morris to clinch the first MAAC title in program history.

Both the Bobcats and the Colonials struggled on offensive early in the game as no team could get a clear shot toward the cage.

Quinnipiac struck first thirteen minutes into the game on Amanda Danziger’s penalty stroke, which would prove to be the only goal in the game.

Robert Morris was presented with eight penalty corners in the game, but Quinnipiac’s defense along with four saves from goaltender Megan Conaboy were too much for the Colonials to handle.

Danziger would go on to earn the MVP award for her game-winning goal in the game and for her outstanding defense throughout the tournament.

“We had great defense today and our forwards were making big interceptions,” Danziger said. “Today is a day that we truly are never going to forget.”

Quinnipiac head coach Becca Main was very proud of all her players in making this championship such a special moment.

“To be the first one at Quinnipiac to win a MAAC title, the first to win the regular season, it’s special because you are making memories,” Main said. “This is going to go down as something that was very special to me.”
