Capital Cities came to Quinnipiac University to play at the TD Bank Sports Center. Several companies came out for the event. Students posed with the L.L. Bean Bootmobile and played boot toss games to win free stuff. The workers manning the Spotify booth handed out free promotional codes for playlists and encouraged students to enter a raffle for mini speakers. To promote the event, SPB gave out promotional items, advertised on coffee cup sleeves, and manned a promotions table. It seemed as though the attendance for the concert was low compared to the number of Quinnipiac’s undergraduate students.
Student Programming Board member Noah Buck said, “It’s been okay right now. I think we got more than we expected…We still got a decent turn out. ”
According to Buck, SPB had expected 60 people to come to the concert. Many of the attending students wanted to hear the band’s song “Safe and Sound.” In between each piece, the crowd chanted a request for the song.
Emotions from students ranged from excited to neutral to disappointed.
Christina Benak used the event as a study break. Benak said, “Well, I heard the song on the radio and then I got interested so I looked [Capital Cities] up on Spotify.”
Andrew Stone came as part of his roommate’s birthday celebration and said, “I don’t not like Capital Cities.”
Freshman Sean Davis said he was disappointed that SPB got “some D-list artist” after sending out a survey listing more popular bands. Davis planned on leaving early, saying, “I feel like I should come support them, but I don’t really like them.”
