News Team 30: New Innovation Center

News+Team+30%3A+New+Innovation+Center

By Elijah Westbrook

The current Center for Communications and Engineering building is home to the new Innovation Center for Entrepreneurship. This new facility is advertised as a space for all members of the Quinnipiac community to gather with others who are interested in pursuing innovation for entrepreneurship.

“We’ve had this place, ICE, and it’s been extremely beneficial for us. I can honestly say that we have accomplished more in a month and half having this space then we have in a year and a half without it,” says senior, Nick Hakim.

This new center hasn’t always been there. In fact it took Quinnipiac 4 years to make the space available for students.

“We didn’t get this place, ICE, until our last year…our senior year,” says senior, Dominick Tullo.

Quinnipiac University recognized the accomplishments of the students who are part of the entrepreneurship program and they finally understood that they needed a space to work and collaborate.

“Without our own room we couldn’t talk to each other and collaborate on what we’re doing,” says Hakim.

But when the university finally provided students with the Innovation Center, it wasn’t up to the expectations of those you use it.

Q30 News reached out to Dale Jasinski who is the Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship and Strategy. Jasinski wasn’t able to do an on-camera interview with us but however provided us with comment saying, “We had been asking for the space for about 4 years before it was finally made available. I think that the university recognized the accomplishments of our students and wanted to create a space for that activity to flourish. All of the remodeling, furniture and equipment has been done solely by students.”

Hakim and Tullo want the space to be used merely as a collaborative place where students can come and share ideas. They feel that the work put into this place is something that will be beneficial to students in the future.
