Quinnipiac Greek-end concluded with a lip sync competition that brought together singing, dancing and the Greek community. The name of the event was Lights, Camera, Greek. Hollywood, movies and award shows were the themes of the night. Sororities and fraternities were paired up and practiced all week in preparation for the event.

The night kicked off with Chi Omega and Sigma Phi Epsilon who highlighted the best movies from each decade. One highlight from their performance was when they went from the song “It’s The Hard Knock Life” from the musical Annie to Jay Z’s “Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem).” They placed third overall for the night’s event. Chi Omega member Bridget Kavanagh said the hardest part about the lip sync was getting together for practices and on the same page for scheduling. She said she loved working with Sigma Epsilon.

“It’s always fun to work with another organization and root for each other during Greek Week,” Kavanagh said.

Alpha Delta Pi and Delta Upsilon were up next and did their musical acts through a “Saturday Night Live” theme. They highlighted the best SNL skits like “Girlfriends Talk Show” and had music by Beyoncé.

Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI) and Kappa Delta took first place in lip sync. They had crowd pleasers including a Missy Elliot throwback and a Bruno Mars hit. They replicated music videos from Sia and Maroon 5, and their hilarious skits mixed with their choreography helped make them the winners of the night. FIJI member Connor McLeod says the event was even more fun than he had imagined. He says the hardest part was getting the choreography down because he usually does not do events like this. He equated winning to being back in high school winning a big sports game.

Beta Theta Pi and Kappa Alpha Theta were up next and used two people watching television as the backdrop to their performance. The two watched Disney Channel and had a Cheetah Girls dance and flipped to Lifetime to watch “Dance Moms.” The performance followed them as they searched for a show to watch and included current artists like Jason Derulo.

Cameron Maselli, a Kappa Alpha Theta member, was a member of the Greek-end committee.  She was in charge of organizing and promoting the events via social media. She said her favorite part was seeing everyone come together in a fun way to support a cause. She also agrees that working with another organization was a great way to build community.

She said, “I love all of [the Betas] and it made me become closer with not only my sisters but everyone from all organizations.”

Pi Kappa Phi and Pi Beta Phi came in second place and had hits from Jay Z and Beyoncé in their performance. The group ended with a dance line with a song from the hit musical Grease. Delta Tau Delta and Alpha Chi Omega journeyed through old and new television shows including, “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” “Friends,” “The Bachelorette,” and “Hannah Montana.” The last group to go was Zeta Beta Tau and Phi Sigma Sigma who did a scene from Titanic and began their performance with “A Little Party Never Killed Nobody” from the movie The Great Gatsby. They also included two versions of “Crazy in Love” by Beyoncé and a song from Footloose, the musical.

The event cost $1 to attend and the money raised went to Circle of Sisterhood.  This foundation raises money to assist girls in 17 countries, allowing them to get an education.
