They say patience is a virtue and hard work will pay off. No one knows that better than Justin Harris. Harris came out of Paterson, New Jersey four years ago in pursuit of an opportunity to play Division 1 basketball. What he was searching for was the chance to compete and a chance to play the game he loves.
Harris was a high school star at Paramus Catholic High School, where he averaged a double-double in his senior season. He knew that the college game would be different but he was looking forward to the challenge.
Flash forward to Harris’ senior year with the Quinnipiac Bobcats and you would witness a forward who was an integral part of the team. He started 28 of the 30 games as a senior where he would average just over 8 points and 6 rebounds per game. The productivity would point to a successful four years on the court for Harris.
Yet, this was not the case. Harris played inconsistent minutes over his first 3 years. He found himself behind Jamee Jackson, Ike Azotam and Ousmane Drame. Over the years, there were also new recruits like AJ Sumbry and Samuel Dingba who were looking for their opportunity to play.
John Small sat down with Harris to reflect on his experiences at Quinnipiac.
