By Shanna McCarriston

Shanna McCarriston breaks down Empire, a Fox show on its second season. She discusses why this show is different from others currently on television and what sets this show apart from others on air.

Empire is a musical drama that takes on many social issues including gay rights and racism. The show breaks traditional on-screen gender roles with a strong fearless female lead. Taraji P. Henson was nominated for the lead actress in a drama series but did not take home the award.

The show follows a divorced couple, Cookie and Lucious Lyon, who are now fighting for power of the record label “Empire” and all that comes with it. The show also follows their family dynamic with their three sons and the drama they bring to the table.

Empire airs Wednesdays on Fox with episodes On Demand as well as on their website. Music from the show can be found on iTunes.
