Quinnipiac sophomore forward Abby Cleary has been dismissed from the women’s ice hockey team.

“She is no longer with our program,” head coach Cassandra Turner said. “We asked Abby to leave our program.”

The sophomore hasn’t appeared in a game since Dec. 2, 2017 against Dartmouth, in which she started as the first line right wing for the Bobcats.

It is unclear exactly when Cleary was asked to leave, but her teammate Sara-Eve Coutu-Godbout posted an image on Instagram Dec. 5, 2017, just three days after Cleary’s last game, saying “celly without you won’t be the same. God has a plan”.

Cleary had five points (2 goals, 3 assists) this season, and had played in 17 of Quinnipiac’s 19 games leading up to her dismissal.

As a freshman in 2016-17, Cleary recorded two points (1 goal, 1 assist) in 32-of-37 games played.

As of Jan. 24, 2018, Cleary is still listed on the Quinnipiac roster, and she remains enrolled academically at the university.

Cleary declined to comment on the situation, but confirmed she will continue her NCAA eligibility at the University of Vermont beginning in the Fall of 2018.

The Quinnipiac women’s ice hockey team currently sits at 13-11-2 (9-7-0 ECAC) and fifth in the conference with 18 league points and six league games remaining.
