Jurassic World: The park is open

Full disclosure… The younger brother running into Jurassic World was me running into the theater to see Jurassic World.

Welcome to Jurassic World, an amusement park filled with, you guessed it, DINOSAURS. There are a number of world-class attractions; such as the Mosasaurus where you can enjoy all the fun of SeaWorld but on a much larger scale. The Gyrosphere where staying on course is a necessity for staying alive, and of course the baby dinosaur petting zoo where you can ride a baby Triceratops, and I’ve never wanted to do anything so badly in my entire life. The park is open and just waiting for your visit!

Jurassic World was a quick paced movie that got you right into the action and the drama while keeping the nostalgia alive. It was able to capture the magic of the original Jurassic Park that most of us thought was completely lost after the premiere of Jurassic Park 3. In this movie you can travel back to Isla Nebula and your childhood, as you are able to bask in the glory that is Hammond’s dream for the park.

One of the things I respected the movie for was recognizing that Jurassic Park happened and that they were able to overcome those obstacles to open the park. Now, if they had stopped at just creating a dinosaur park everything would have been fine. However all of their problems start when everyone gets bored with just normal dinosaurs, which is absurd, but everyone is bored, so they have to create the next best thing.

The Indominus Rex is the first genetically modified dinosaur created at Jurassic World, and as Chris Pratt tells us, it’s not a good idea. No one knows exactly what the dinosaur has been made from, but it is a terrifying concoction that creates a dinosaur that is truly terrifying.

Now let’s get to the nitty gritty. Chris Pratt, Hollywood’s latest sex symbol that no one saw coming, but boy are we happy it came, plays Owen Grady. He is a velociraptor behavioral expert that is able to interact with the animals without getting ripped to shreds. He is a laid back guy who is the closest thing to a dinosaur rights activist at this establishment.

Bryce Dallas Howard plays Claire, who is basically in charge of running the park. She is an uptight businesswoman that sees everything as numbers on a page. When her nephews come to visit, she barely pays attention to them until they are in mortal danger.

My few issues with the film were with the writing and the acting. The writing is pretty cheesy and everyone acts almost as if they are a cartoon version of themselves. But let’s be real for a second the reason we are there are for the DINOSAURS, and boy do you see a lot of dinosaurs.

All in all, this movie was able to take hold of my nostalgia and take me back to the world I love, Jurassic Park. It had everything I’ve come to expect from these movies. There were dinosaurs fighting one another, dinosaurs eating animals that could potentially eat me, and two children in constant fear of being eaten. Jurassic World was a great time and a fun movie for the whole family. DINOSAURS!
