Student Government Association hopes to become more transparent

The Student Government Association gave out free ice cream and churros to encourage students to get talking about changes they want to see on campus last week. The SGA also emphasized this was part of their plan in becoming more transparent as a student-elected organization on campus.

The event, called “Suite Treats” was held in the SGA suite and was created in hopes to get new ideas and feedback in regards to student experience.

At the event, the members of SGA emphasized how important it is for students to speak up whenever they have a problem.

“Our goal this year as an executive board, and as SGA is to make sure we are being as transparent as we can with the student body, because we are here to essentially serve the students,” Sophia Marshall, SGA vice president, said. “If we’re not talking to them all the time, then what’s the point of us being here.”

Marshall also emphasized that the best way for students to reach out to their class representatives is to “just walk into the suite because our door is always open.”

SGA Vice President for Public Relations, Jamien Jean-Baptiste, plans on holding more events throughout the year in an effort to try to become more transparent.

“We wanted to provide a big enough incentive for students to come in,” Jean-Baptiste said. “If any student has a problem with the university, this is exactly what the event is for.”

Baptiste also said that by hosting more events like “Suite Treats,” the relationships between students and SGA members can continue to improve and help everyone have a better overall experience while at Quinnipiac.
