‘Bridgerton’ renewed for Season 2
January 28, 2021
Netflix’s new hit show Bridgerton has officially been renewed for a second season! Shonda Rhimes’s new drama series has broken Netflix records worldwide and now fans can prepare themselves for another season! Here’s everything we know so far.
The first season of Bridgerton is set during the Regency era and revolves around the lives of the Bridgerton family, specifically on the romantic relationship between Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) and the Duke of Hastings, Simon Bassett (Regé-Jean Page). The second season is set to focus on Daphne’s brother, Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey), and his journey with marriage. Showrunner Chris Van Dusen has also stated that the new season will feature brand new characters and the episodes are currently being written. Van Dusen said, “I’ve been writing it. I know where we’re going. We’ll be introducing a bunch of new characters. Anthony will have a love interest next season, and it will be as sweeping and as beautiful as viewers came to expect from the first season.”
Although the cast and crew are set to start production in the spring of this year, there may be some delays to Covid-19. Phoebe Dynevor spoke to Deadline about how the show is dealing with these circumstances. She said, “I can’t imagine how it would be possible to film under these circumstances. There are so many extras and so many crew members, and it’s a very intimate show. It just baffles me how we would film it under Covid rules unless there was a vaccine beforehand. But I’m feeling really excited to go back. After lockdown and not really working much, it feels like a bit of a dream to look back at filming season one. It was a wonderful experience, so to know that’s on the horizon is the best news ever.”
Since the Bridgerton book series holds eight different books revolving around the different love lives of the 8 siblings, fans are hoping this could mean 7 more seasons are potentially on the way! Van Dusen stated, “This being a family of eight children and there being eight books, I would love to be able to focus and really tell stories and love stories for all the Bridgerton siblings. For each character, for sure. I would love that. In success, I would love that.”
Here’s hoping for an amazing second season and an exciting continuation of Bridgerton!
