Freshman Carleigh Peterson was crowned the winner on Friday night at The Student Programming Board’s QU Idol. The event was held at 8 p.m. in Buckman Theater. Peterson performed Adele’s “Make You Feel My Love” and “I’m Telling You” from the Broadway musical Dreamgirls in the final round. Sophomore Christina Comizio came in second place and Sophomore Alexandra Lorca came in third place.
In the weeks leading up to the show, two sets of auditions were held where 20 students came to try out. QU’s Note-able group opened the night with Queen’s classic “Somebody to Love.” Junior Emily Fagan hosted the event. Twelve contestants competed for the title, all singing in the first round. Four student judges Jonathan Hammer, Gabe Reyes, Matthew Pacheco, and Leah Ledrew selected the top six contestants and winners. The top six went on to a final round of singing. The top three were then selected and first, second, and third place were announced.
The Student Programming Board’s Traditions and Community committee put on the event. The committee’s chairperson Abbie O’Neill said she was really happy with the turnout and thought everyone did really well.
“It was good to see so many students come out to support everyone who performed,” said O’Neill.
