Cue the fanny packs, bright colors, and glitter because festival season is here. Of course big ones like Coachella, Bonnaroo, and Lollapalooza are the main festivals that millions of people flock to, but there are plenty of other festivals to be excited about.
As a fellow New Yorker, I was eagerly awaiting Governor’s Ball’s lineup, but was unfortunately let down. For hundreds of dollars, you’re only seeing a few key stars. Since I am a hip hip enthusiast and R&B connoisseur, there weren’t too many artists to get excited about. The most notable mentions for headlining artists are Eminem, Halsey, and Travis Scott. Kali Uchis, Dram, and 2 Chainz did pique my curiosity, but the overall lineup featured more obscure artists. New York City isn’t cheap, so tickets along with food and transportation are also unwanted expenses that no college student should ever stress about.
Aside from the song by Owl City, Firefly has a great festival too! Firefly is located in Dover, Delaware and I’m excited about the headlining artists. Arctic Monkeys, Kendrick Lamar, Eminem and The Killers will be the main musical attractions for Firefly. This is a major musical fusion with many diverse genres, and that is what a festival should offer. Lil Wayne, Odesza, and Portugal. The Man are also performing in this year’s lineup. A trip to Dover may be worth it if you’re looking for a more chill experience for first-time festival goers.
