There were plenty of students at Fall Fest this year, but one junior viewed the concert from a different perspective.
Fanonx Rogers, a computer science major, was asked to DJ the event through connections at WQAQ 98.1 FM, the school radio station. He has served as the production manager at the station since his sophomore year.
Rogers is not a newcomer when it comes to gigs at Quinnipiac. He often performs at Pi Kappa Phi and Phi Sigma Sigma’s Sets on the Beach, WQAQ’s Rap Battle, and other Greek Life events.
Most recently, Rogers opened for the EDM DJ Kap Slap at this year’s Electric Ability Carnival, sponsored by Pi Kappa Phi. All proceeds from the event go their national philanthropy, The Ability Experience. Rogers cites the event as one of the biggest accomplishment so far in his career.
“It was amazing. I don’t even have words to describe it,” he said in an email. “I actually ended up emceeing, as well. It wasn’t even planned. He gave me the mic and I literally just went in front of the crowd and started hyping him up.”
In addition to Quinnipiac, Rogers regularly DJ’s in the Hamden area. He performs at Side Street Grille every Thursday from 9-11 p.m. and Aunt Chilada’s every Friday night. He is also in rotation at Toad’s Place in New Haven. He performs there every two weeks on Saturday nights.
The EAC aftermovie featuring Rogers and Kap Slap will be released in the coming months, but keep an eye out for Rogers at one of his many gigs. He doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.
