The course selection process is once again underway for Quinnipiac students. Throughout the month of March, students have been meeting with their advisors, making a game plan or two for selecting their classes, and stressing out.
“I ask students to come in prepared,” said advisor and Professor Molly Yanity. “They need to look at their student evaluation form, so they have a general idea of what they want to take and what they need.”
While advisors encourage students to ask them for help, Yanity says she feels like more of a “safety net” for students to fall back on when they can’t arrange their classes themselves. The main goal is to keep students on track for graduation.
“We don’t want someone to come in fall semester of their senior year and say, ‘Whoa, I don’t have enough credits. What happened?’” Yanity said.
Her best advice to incoming freshmen and transfers is to not overload your schedule.
Registration order goes by credit amount. Students with the most credits have the earlier registration dates, ending with freshmen that have later dates. If you have a late registration date, there are some tips to help you out.
Have a few back up plans because your first choice of schedule may not always work.
Be sure to utilize your advisor, since they can give you some extra options for possible courses if you’re feeling stuck. And lastly, keep a good balance of courses. You want to make sure you spread out time-consuming courses over multiple semesters.
Course registration runs through the month of April, with incoming freshmen registering in the summer.
