Police are on the hunt for an inmate who escaped Cheshire Correctional Institution on Wednesday night, just seven miles away from Quinnipiac University’s Mount Carmel Campus.

The felon, 25-year old Luis Clarke, escaped at 7 p.m. from the facility according to Cheshire Police.

State Police, Cheshire Police, and the Department of Corrections are currently trying to locate the inmate.

Clarke is described as 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighing 175 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen in his gray prison jumpsuit.

In regards to how campus security is handling the situation, Quinnipiac University Associate Vice President of Public Relations John Morgan said “ We have no reason to believe that the inmate is anywhere near the university.  As a precaution, we have assigned additional public safety officers to patrol the university tonight. As always, we have public safety officers at all the gates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”

Clarke is serving an 18-month sentence for a probation violation and is considered a low-risk inmate.

Police confirm that Clarke is now in custody.
