Tuesday, October 31, 2017, was the deadliest terror attack on New York City since 9/11. The suspect is Sayfullo Saipov, a 29-year-old immigrant from Uzbekistan. He rented a truck from Home Depot to carry out an act of terror he had been planning for.
Saipov turned to a bike path at 3:05 pm in lower Manhattan where he drove through many people. It is said he chose to commit this tragedy on Halloween in the hopes that there would be a lot of people on the street for him to harm.
Eight people have been confirmed dead and 11 others injured in the attack.
The suspect was shot by police in the abdomen and then brought to the hospital where he underwent surgery.
Saipov had been working as an Uber driver in New Jersey for the last six months and had passed the background check at the time.
New reports state that Sayfullo Saipov has been charged with one count of material support to a terrorist organization and one count of violence and destruction of a motor vehicle.
