Last Wednesday, Chartwells, Quinnipiac’s dining service teamed up with students to give back.
One Million Acts of Good is a movement started by Ellen Degeneres and Cheerios to try and encourage more people to make a difference in their own communities.
“They reached out to Chartwells and Campus Dining across the United States and we were selected as one of the colleges because we have a really strong community service program here,” Director of Dining Services, Leean Spalding, said.
In just two hours, 300 “Matter Boxes” were filled by students with food and words of encouragement to be distributed across a number of charities throughout New Haven.
While Quinnipiac students were excited to give back to the community, they were also excited to see a change in Chartwells.
“I was really excited that QU dining is…expanding their program into more of an experience and doing an event like this,” Travis Dunham, Chartwells student marketing intern, said.
And with the performance by students Tyler Mowers and Gabby Cocca, regular Quinnipiac’s Got Talent acts, photo-ops and an Ellen Degeneres cut-out, it’s clear that Chartwells is not only trying to make a change in the community, but also in every Quinnipiac students college experience.
“We’re not just making food for the students, we’re helping them grow. We’re also giving them community service opportunities,” Spalding said.
