Quinnipiac resumes previous New Haven shuttle route
October 1, 2021
Quinnipiac University restarted previous shuttle routes to downtown New Haven and Union Station on Sept. 24 based on the needs of the community.
The shuttles to New Haven will be running twice a day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Chief of Public Safety Tony Reyes says the decision to restart these stops was made to accommodate the students’ and parents’ requests.
“We want to make sure that we are meeting specific needs and widespread needs and I think that’s what we did adding this service on the weekends,” Reyes said.
Despite budget concerns for reoffering other services, Chief Reyes notes that there were no significant impacts to the budget in order to run the new routes.
Students like Layla Tracey, a first-year psychology major, believe that the new stops added are for the better and creates more accessibility for students to go home and visit friends and family.
“I do have a friend that wants to go out to New Jersey to visit family every now and then, so to have the Union Station one going on the weekends, I think that’s really good,” Tracey said.
Meanwhile, other students like Omar Saad, a first-year business major, feel that the number of shuttles are less and that the stops offered are not ideal.
“I don’t feel like there’s enough of them, or they go to places that students would be interested in going to,” Saad says.
As the holiday season gets closer, Chief Reyes points out that the university may revise the schedule to the New Haven route.
“As we get close to Thanksgiving and the holidays we’ll think about making some changes to the shuttle that goes to union station… maybe having it go with some more frequency to accommodate travel,” Reyes said.
