Students were notified on Wednesday of a sexual assault that happened on Nov. 9 at the corner of Mount Carmel Avenue and New Road, which is located just outside of Quinnipiac’s Mount Carmel campus.

An email was sent to students from Quinnipiac’s Chief of Public Safety Edgar Rodriguez. The email said a student was walking at the intersection between Mount Carmel Avenue and New Road when “two white males approximately age 25 who were in a blue 4-door older model sedan with a loud muffler, stopped and offered her a ride.”

The victim entered the vehicle and “reported she was sexually assaulted by one of the males.”

Hamden Police notified the university on Nov. 12 of the student’s report. The university must comply with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure Act and report instances of crime on campus to the university community.

In a second email sent to students on Nov. 14, Rodriguez emphasized the services the Public Safety Department offers students to maintain safety on campus.

These services include a 24/7 escort service, Quinnipiac’s Blue Light system and routine campus patrols. Public Safety also encourages students to use the app RAVE Guardian for security alerts.

Hamden Police is investigating the incident and anyone with relevant information may reach out to Public Safety by phone at (203) 582-6200. Support services are also available to students through the Office of Counseling Services.

Public Safety recommends the Rave Guardian app for emergency alerts.
