On July 11, Quinnipiac University announced John A. Bau Jr. as the new Assistant Dean of the Student Experience and Career Development in the School of Computing and Engineering.
Bau graduated from James Madison University with a bachelor’s degree in communications. He also revived a master’s in communications from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
After college Bau worked at the University of Connecticut as an engineering career consultant. “It was a terrific role working with amazing students, the hour-long daily commute from my home in Wallingford to UConn was taking its toll, so I took a job with a former coworker back at Yale in the summer of 2017,” said Bau.
In the fall of 2018, Quinnipiac University posted a job for their first-ever Director of Career Development in the School of Engineering
Bau said in a statement to Q30. He joined Quinnipiac in January 2019 as the inaugural Director of Career Development.
“John Bau’s appointment as assistant dean is both well-deserved and long overdue,” Taskin Kocak, Dean of the School of Computing and Engineering said. “We have full confidence in his abilities, as he has already been performing much of the duties of this role with exceptional dedication and skill.”
Bau told Q30 that he enjoys working with students every day. He also said he enjoys building great relationships to create bright futures in the field. Bau enjoys being “the only career development professional in the state of Connecticut who reports to an engineering dean.” Bau stated that he “relished the opportunity to teach our required career development seminar for all our undergraduate students” and that he’s extremely excited to have the chance to work with every single student.
