HAMDEN, Conn. (Q30) — A Quinnipiac University student was arrested and suspended from the university on Oct. 31, after an arson at Dana English Hall, according to the Hamden police public arrest log and Quinnipiac officials.
Police arrested 18-year-old Dimitrios Constantio Panayotopoulos, of Stamford, around 5 p.m. on Halloween, according to the public arrest log.
John Morgan, the associate vice president for public relations at Quinnipiac, confirmed that Panayotopoulos is a Quinnipiac first-year student. In a statement, Morgan said that the student has been suspended.
“The safety of our students is always our top priority,” Morgan said in a statement. “The student has been suspended from the university pending their conduct meeting. We applaud our Public Safety officers, and Facilities and Residential Life staffs for their swift response, which led to the student’s arrest and removal from the university community. Destructive behavior will not be tolerated. That is simply not consistent with the culture of Quinnipiac students.”
According to the arrest log, Panayotopoulos was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree criminal mischief and reckless burning.
Panayotopoulos is scheduled to be arraigned in Meriden court on Thursday, Nov. 16.
