Winter Weather Advisory – 1/30/19

The National Weather Service has issued the following alerts for the New Haven County.

WIND ADVISORY NOW TO 10 PM EST WEDNESDAY (1/30/18)…

*WHAT: West 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph

*WHEN: Through mid evening.

*DETAILS: Strong winds may blow down limbs, trees, and power lines. Scattered power outages are expected.

WIND CHILL ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT (1/30/18) TO 10 AM EST THURSDAY…

*WHAT: Very cold wind chills expected. Wind chills as low as 15 below zero expected.

*WHERE: New York City, interior south central and southeast Connecticut, most of northeast New Jersey, Nassau, southern Westchester and Fairfield, and western Suffolk counties.

*WHEN: From midnight tonight to 10 AM EST Thursday.

*DETAILS: The cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin if precautions are not taken.

 

An arctic cold front will pass through the region this afternoon into the early evening hours. This front will be accompanied by a line of snow showers and/or snow squalls that will last around 30 minutes to 1 hour. Brief whiteout conditions with a quick coating to around an inch of snow is possible in any of the heavier snow squalls. Motorists should plan for hazardous travel during the evening commute.

Governor Lamont activated the Severe Cold Weather Protocol from today (1/30/19) until Saturday (2/3/19).
