Another double-double by Ike Azotam (21 points, 12 rebounds) led the Quinnipiac men’s basketball team to a 82-61 win over the Broncs of Rider University on Saturday afternoon.
The win moves the Bobcats to 14-8 (9-4 MAAC) on the season.
It was a close game throughout the first half. The Broncs led 27-24 with just under three minutes left in the opening half, but then the Bobcats began to take control of the game.
Quinnipiac went on a 10-0 run to end the first half and take a 34-27 lead into the locker room.
“I thought the end of the first half was huge for us,” said head coach Tom Moore. “This gave us all the momentum which helped us to extend our lead in the second half.”
Quinnipiac went on to outscore Rider 48-34 in the second half due in part to them out-rebounding the Broncs 44-30.
Azotam, Umar Shannon, Zaid Hearst, Shaq Shannon, and Evan Conti all finished the game with double digit points scored for the Bobcats.
The 61 points is tied with two other games this season for the fewest points given up by Quinnipiac and several of the players agree that it was because of the hard week of practice that they put in.
“We did a lot of line transition drills in practice and really worked on our defensive game.” said Hearst.
The Bobcats will look for their third straight win when they welcome the Marist Red Foxes to the TD Bank Sports Center on Monday Feb. 10 at 7 p.m.
