It didn’t take long for Baker Dunleavy to put his Philadelphia basketball ties to good use.
Archbishop Wood class of 2018 guard Tyree Pickron committed to Quinnipiac today, choosing the Bobcats over Stony Brook and Bowling Green, among others.
“I am very excited and can’t wait to get it going with Coach Baker and the team,” Pickron said.
At 6 foot 3 inches tall and 180 pounds, Pickron has a Division I frame. He’s a physical wing who can draw contact and get to the rim and the free throw line.
“He has put in so much work, he’s a total gym rat,” Archbishop Wood assistant coach Chris Roantree said. “He is thrilled to play with Baker, he is ecstatic. He is really looking forward to the season, it’s a weight off his shoulders. We’re excited to get the season going.”
Quinnipiac offered Pickron a spot in late March, one of the first Division I programs to do so.
With former guard Peter Kiss now at Rutgers, Quinnipiac is in need of a tough wing who can attack the basket and be a solid perimeter defender. Pickron may just be that piece for the Bobcats next year.
The Philadelphia native averaged 13.5 points per game for Archbishop Wood last year and had a successful AAU circuit this summer with K-Low Elite.
This is Dunleavy’s first 2018 commitment.
Quinnipiac’s 2017-18 campaign begins Nov. 11 against Dartmouth.
