The Quinnipiac Bobcats defeated the defending national champion Clarkson Golden Knights 1-0 Friday night at High Point Solutions Arena. The game featured two of the best teams in the nation and in the ECAC. While Clarkson has been a familiar name atop the ECAC standings, it has been Quinnipiac who has opened the eyes of many around the country.
Many considered the game against Clarkson as Quinnipiac’s first true test of the season. The Bobcats have been on a tear this season as they are undefeated, but the Golden Knights are defending national champions and presented a new challenge going into the game for the Bobcats. Clarkson had also never lost at High Point Solutions arena going into the game.
The game was tightly contested, as neither team was able to dictate the pace of play. Quinnipiac’s Emma Woods broke the stalemate at 13:39 in the second period when she roofed a shot in tight past Clarkson goaltender Shea Tiley.
The pace of play remained the same after the goal as both teams struggled to generate pressure on either goaltender. Quinnipiac net minder, Chelsea Laden, had another solid game in goal for the Bobcat’s as she made 15 saves en route to her seventh shutout of the season.
The Bobcat’s had another successful weekend of action beating the Golden Knights and tying the Saint Lawrence Saints, 2-2. Quinnipiac will return to action next weekend when they travel to take on Princeton and compete in the Nutmeg Classic at the University of Connecticut.
