Keith Irizarry is a two-time Emmy award nominated sportscaster who has been involved in many different fields of journalism. Irizarry’s work has ranged from hosting on-air radio shows to being on-air as a television anchor.
Irizarry started his career with MSG Varsity and today works for many high profile media outlets.
“Now I’m at NBC Sports, ESPN New York radio, Yahoo Sports radio, ONE World Sports, I work at a lot of different places now, it’ fun,” Irizarry said.
Irizarry was contacted by Quinnipiac University to moderate “Opening Locker Room Doors, an Evening Dialogue with Michael Sam,” an opportunity that he could not turn down.
“I think it has a chance to be ground breaking, Michael hasn’t done a lot of interviews with many people,” Irizarry said.
Sam is the first openly gay person to get drafted in the NFL. Since coming out, Sam has been cut from the St. Louis Rams and Dallas Cowboys, got engaged to his boyfriend Vito, and has been cast on the upcoming season of “Dancing with Stars.”
Irizarry and Quinnipiac University Assistant Professor of Journalism Molly Yanity co-moderated the interview with Sam Tuesday night and spoke to him about his life and his coming out process.
