After a slow start to the teams matchup against ECAC foe, Dartmouth, the Quinnipiac men’s hockey team was able to defeat the Big Green three minutes into overtime off a goal from forward Soren Jonzzon.
The Bobcats had trouble putting plays together throughout the first and second period.
“For some reason we’ve struggled a little bit with slow starts over the course of the season. You know we really just gotta buckle down and get that energy up. We can’t wait for them to get a lead for that to fire us up,” Jonzzon said.
Dartmouth’s Tyler Sikura scored in the second period to put his team up 1-0. It wouldn’t be until the start of the third period that Landon Smith would score for the Bobcats to tie up the game 1-1.
“It was really probably about the 16-17 minute mark of the second [period] that’s where we were battling and winning races and doing a great job and finding a way to win a hockey game,” head coach Rand Pecknold said.
Aftering forcing the game into overtime, Soren Jonzzon was able to tip a shot from freshman Bo Pieper to seal the victory for the Bobcats.
“I mean we were able to get a rush and create a little bit of chaos down low. Their D had no options, they were on the boards and Bo Pieper had just changed and he was able to get the puck to the net and I just crashed and it happened to go off my foot and go through those legs and in,” Jonzzon said.
