Quinnipiac extended its unbeaten streak to 18 games as it took down the Boston University Terriers 6-1 in Hamden during a non-conference game.
The Bobcats’ (20-1-4, 10-1-3 ECAC) 18-game unbeaten streak is a new program record, they now have seven straight seasons of 20 plus wins to add to their resume.
Prior to today’s game, the Bobcats were 0-4-1 against the Terriers (14-9-2, 11-4-2 WHEA) all time, so the Bobcats certainly had a chip on their shoulder heading into the game.
“We are clearly pretty excited about the win today. You know our team had this game as one they have been excited about this whole year,” Quinnipiac head coach Cassandra Turner said.
The first couple of minutes looked pretty grim for the Bobcats as the Terriers were outplaying them in almost every aspect of the game, but Meghan Turner’s goal sure changed the game around.
“Our first goal was huge. It was exactly what we’ve been talking about. We wanted to be able to create some good second shot opportunities and for Meghan to get her own rebound, I think our team understood, ‘Okay, we need to stick to the game plan, we need to have those effort plays and that kind of set the tone,” Cassandra Turner said.
Cassandra Turner has made it a priority for her Bobcats to put together three full periods after playing some games in the beginning of the season where it was evident that players weren’t playing their hearts out towards the end of certain games.
Melissa Samoskevich implemented that into her game as she skated through a couple of defenders late in the third period to score her 11th goal of her freshman campaign.
“She was very confident today. There were a lot of moments today where it felt like Samoskevich was skating and no one else on the ice was skating. Her speed really shined today,” Cassandra Turner said.
T.T. Cianfarano scored her 21st and 22nd goals of the year. This was Cianfarano’s 14th multiple point game this season. Both of her goals incorporated her tremendous talent, speed and ability to finish.
“Clearly she brings some finish. She wants to score goals. She’s the kid in practice that if there is a puck sitting loose around the net, she finds it and bangs it in every single time,” Cassandra Turner said.
Quinnipiac hits the ice on Jan. 29 as it takes on conference rival, Harvard in Cambridge, Mass. as it looks to extend its 18-game unbeaten streak.
