The Quinnipiac field hockey team went over to take on cross-town rival, Yale, at Johnson Field in a non-conference matchup. The Bobcats were coming off their first win of the season; a 2-0 win against Holy Cross. Quinnipiac would end up falling to the Bulldogs 1-0 in an overtime battle.
Despite the 1-0 loss, it was the Bobcats who held the upper hand on offense for most of the game. Quinnipiac had double the amount of penalty corner opportunities as Yale with 12 and out shot the Bulldogs 21-15. However, the Bobcats were unable to capitalize on all these opportunities. Yale’s goalie, Heather Schleiser, was a major factor in this shutout, recording 9 saves in the game.
While it was the Bobcats who had most of the scoring chances, it was Yale who came through when it counted. In overtime, it was Danee Fitzgerald who finally got one past Quinnipiac goalkeeper Megan Conaboy to seal the win for the Bulldogs. Q30 Sports’ Matt Borker has more on the game.
