Grand Forks Herald college hockey writer Brad E. Schlossman reported on Twitter that Quinnipiac’s leading scorer Sam Anas practiced in a red non-contact jersey during the team’s Thursday practice session.

Schlossman also reported that Quinnipiac head coach Rand Pecknold did not provide comment regarding Anas following Thursday’s practice.
QU coach Rand Pecknold opens presser by saying he’s not commenting on injuries or who is in the lineup. So… there ya go.

This comes just days after Pecknold spoke about the status of Anas during a Monday afternoon press conference.
“It’s not good,” Pecknold said. “I mean, he didn’t even bring his equipment with him to Lake Placid this past weekend, he didn’t practice, he’s not even close. We’re going to proceed ahead without him, and we need to find a way.”
Anas was injured against Union in Game 3 of the ECAC Quarterfinals and left the ice without putting pressure on his left leg.
He leads the Bobcats in goals with 23 and points with 40 and is also tied for third in the nation with nine power-play goals.
The Bobcats played their ECAC Semifinal matchup against Harvard without the 21-year-old, losing 5-2 to the eventual conference champions. College Hockey News reported last week that it appeared “doubtful” that Anas could return to the Quinnipiac lineup for the NCAA tournament.
Schlossman also tweeted that it appeared Anas rotated shifts with Alex Barron as Quinnipiac’s second line winner. Anas played on QU’s top line with Travis St. Denis and Barron during the ECAC Quarterfinals.
Quinnipiac and North Dakota will face-off on Friday March 27 at 8 p.m. ET at Scheels Arena in Fargo, North Dakota. The winner will face the victor of St. Cloud State and Michigan Tech on Saturday at 9 p.m. ET.
