For the second time in the last month, the Quinnipiac men’s basketball program has paused all team activities. This time, the circumstances have a much more direct impact on the group.

The Bobcats announced that a person within the program has tested positive for COVID-19. Friday and Saturday’s MAAC opener with Iona has been postponed to a later date to be announced.

“The health and safety of the Quinnipiac community remains paramount as Quinnipiac Athletics continues to follow university, local, state and national guideline in response to the global pandemic,” a team spokesperson said in a statement.

In response to rising case numbers on Quinnipiac’s campus at the beginning of November, all athletic activities, including men’s and women’s basketball practices, were briefly paused.

The Bobcats were originally scheduled for a bye week on the MAAC’s opening weekend. After the Monmouth Hawks entered a two-week pause on Nov. 25, the league moved Quinnipiac up to play Monmouth’s original opponent, the Iona Gaels.

Iona will now play Fairfield, head coach Rick Pitino announced on Twitter.

Quinnipiac did not announce a target date to resume team activities. When they do, they’ll be 2-2 following wins against Fairleigh Dickinson and New Hampshire and a pair of losses against Drexel.
