The No. 15 Quinnipiac men’s ice hockey team opened up their season with a 5-3 win over the Bentley Falcons. The Bobcats offense dominated for most of the game outshooting the Falcons by 20. However, the game was much closer than that statistic would suggest.
The scoring began mid-way through the 1st period, when freshman Bo Pieper scored his first career goal off an assist. It only took Bentley about five and a half minutes to tie it up on a goal by Max French. In the final minute of the period, Travis St. Denis put the Bobcats back on top 2-1.
Bentley’s Andrew Gladiuk would score a shorthanded goal to tie it up again eight minutes into the 2nd period. But Quinnipiac’s captain Matthew Peca would get the lead right back on a power play.
The Bobcats would add to that 3-2 lead in the opening minute of the 3rd period when last year’s national rookie of the year, Sam Anas would score off an assist by freshman Landon Smith. But Bentley would not go down easy. After penalties on Tanner MacMAster and Connor Clifton left the Bobcats two men down, Max French would put one past Michael Garteig for his second goal of the game to cut the his team’s deficit to one. But Quinnipiac would get an empty netter from Anas and go one to the 5-3 victory.
