Former Quinnipiac ice hockey forward Travis St. Denis signed a one-year professional contract Monday with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
The Sound Tigers play in the American Hockey League (AHL), one level below the National Hockey League (NHL).
“I’m excited to sign my first professional contract with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers,” St. Denis said in a press release. “I’m looking forward to the opportunity and can’t wait to get back on the ice. I want to thank the entire Quinnipiac community for all of its support over the past four years. Playing professional hockey has always been a dream of mine and I’m just happy I signed with such a great organization.”
The senior assistant captain became the fourth former Bobcat to sign a pro deal this offseason and the second to sign a deal with a team in the New York Islanders system. Former defenseman Devon Toews signed a entry-level contract with the Islanders in April.
The Bobcats’ top line winger notched a career high 49 points this season while leading his team to their second NCAA Frozen Four and National Championship appearance.
Quinnipiac won the ECAC regular season (Cleary Cup), and captured the ECAC Championship (Whitelaw Cup) for the first time in program history.
St. Denis was also a lethal weapon on the power play, scoring 10 goals while on the man advantage, tied with teammates Sam Anas and Tim Clifton for the team lead.
With three points in a game on Jan. 7 against Union, St. Denis became just the 38th player in program history to notch 100 career points. The senior forward finished his career with 125 points, good for 20th all time in Quinnipiac hockey history.
St. Denis was a part of the Quinnipiac senior class that not only competed in the NCAA tournament each season, but also recorded an NCAA-high 108 wins over four seasons.
