Rematches
Next up for the Bobcats is Monmouth and Manhattan, two teams that they faced earlier in the season. They dropped both of those games. These games are huge for the Bobcats because it gives them a chance for revenge. First, on Thursday, Quinnipiac faces Monmouth. It lost 63-60 on Jan. 2, a game that Quinnipiac lost in final minute of regulation. In Hamden, however, the Hawks will have a tough test again a team that just blew out Siena by 40 points. Sunday, Quinnipiac travels to face Manhattan. In early December, it lost an ugly one 52-42. It was Quinnipiac’s lowest point total of the season as the Bobcats shot just 21.3 percent from the field. Now, a little less than two months later Quinnipiac is rolling. Monmouth and Manhattan are facing a totally different team. If Quinnipiac wins these next two games, conversation about going dancing for a second straight year will be had.
Bobcats keep rolling
Wow. Where do you start with this team? They’re red hot, on a six game win streak, and just put up 94 points against Siena, which is first in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Siena was 8-1 coming into the game. From the start, the Bobcat’s ran away with it. They led 25-8 after the first quarter and were up 47-12 at the half. Siena shot 22 percent from the field in the first half and went 0-for-11 from the three-point line. Meanwhile, Quinnipiac played its best first half of the year and shot close to 65 percent from the field and 50 percent from the three-point line. Every Bobcat contributed and no one dominated the stat sheet, which is what has seemed to work for the Bobcat’s. The 94-52 win tied the program record for the largest margin of victory.
Aryn McClure
Rookie of the Week, twice in a row. That’s a huge accomplishment for Aryn McClure. She has dominated the past three games, averaging 15 points. For a team that needed to count on its younger players to make an impact, they have definitely gotten that and more from her. If you want to look for one of the reasons for the Bobcat’s success, look no further than McClure. She’s second on the team in shooting percentage and leads the team in assists. Her ability to set up the rest of the team has helped the Bobcats put up points. She’s not only dropping buckets, but is making the rest of the team better. She’s a team player and knows her limits. She is only fourth on the team in shooting attempts while sitting at third in points. As if that wasn’t enough, she leads the team in total rebounds. She really does it all for Quinnipiac, especially in the last couple of games. McClure’s play will be important not only going forward for this season, but for the next three years.
