Rose Caverly scored 20 points in 34 minutes in her Quinnipiac debut and Mikala Morris added 17 points in the Bobcats’ 71-65 season-opening win against the Providence Friars on Wednesday.
The game was the first on Quinnipiac’s campus since March 7.
The Bobcats led 40-27 at halftime and staved off a late comeback attempt by the Friars. After Providence took a one-point lead with 2:32 remaining in the fourth quarter, Quinnipiac went on a 9-2 run to end the game.
Mackenzie DeWees set a career-high with 14 rebounds. Vanessa Udoji played seven minutes in her first game action since Dec. 1, 2017, following two ACL surgeries.
After the cancelation of this weekend’s Basketball Hall of Fame Challenge at Mohegan Sun, Quinnipiac’s next test on the schedule is a non-conference matchup with Fordham on Dec. 5 at 2:00 p.m. in Hamden.
