Some Good News!

John Krasinski, just like the rest of us, was tired of seeing all the bad news in the media. So, he decided to do something about it. Krasinski started a youtube show, Some Good News, which highlights all the good news going on in the world. The show is lighthearted and uplifting, but Krasinki’s main focus is helping viewers smile, even just a little, in such unprecedented times.

His first episode applauded first responders all over the world who are fighting every single day to help those in need. Krasinski also invited Steve Carrel to join the episode, since it was the 15th anniversary of The Office. How could Carrel say no to an offer like that? The two shared some of the favorite moments they had while filming the show and viewers had a blast watching them. He ended the episode with his favorite story of the week about a 15 year old girl, Coco, who has just finished her final chemotherapy treatment. Her friends and family put on a social distancing party for her, filling her street with posters and balloons. Coco and Krasinski had a virtual interview where he told her, “You are my newest and biggest hero.”

The show is now up to having 4 episodes, with the last one being a virtual prom hosted by Krasinski himself. Krasinski planned this “online prom” for high school seniors who have had their proms canceled due to the pandemic. Seniors all across the nation dressed up and virtually danced the night away. Many shared their homemade prom looks through livestreams. Krasinski was also joined by many celebrities like Billie Eilish, Chance the Rapper, and even The Jonas Brothers. Each of these stars performed their hits throughout the night and made viewers feel a little closer to normal. But, nothing could beat Krasinski’s DJ skills. Although it was not the ideal prom or the one seniors have been anticipating, it was definitely an experience that none of them will ever forget. Krasinski ended the night by telling viewers, “We are all going through this together, it is a very very weird time, and each and every one of you are missing something. This is the least I could do — embarrassing myself to the full extent for you. And I couldn’t be more proud to do it.” The night was a complete success, surpassing over 214,000 views on the livestream.

Some Good News emphasizes more of what the world needs right about now, entertainment and kindness. Krasinski will be posting new episodes every week and I recommend tuning in to see all the good news around us that we might be missing.
