Falcon Pizza, one of Quinnipiac University student’s favorite pizza places shut down on March 1 due to a failure to submit a sales and use tax permit.
Sales and use tax permits allow the Connecticut government to collect sales tax from customers on goods and services sold.
Other documents from Falcon Pizza that were not filed to the State of Connecticut include: two annual reports from 2022 and 2023 and a sales and use tax permit in 2023.
Following Falcon Pizza’s closing, brothers Selim Sahin and Yavuz Sahin opened Whitney Pizza under the Whitney Pizza LLC. They also own Andy’s Pizza located in West Haven.
Whitney Pizza is officially open for business on Whitney Avenue and accepts QCash.
Selim Sahin described this second location as “a gift from God”. He said this second location was not something him and his brother planned.
“This location was previously run by people we know, and they couldn’t do it you know, so they closed it and we were passing by here. We had no idea this place was closed… We weren’t looking for something like this so [it] kinda got us excited.”
Due to corporation laws which complicate a transfer of LLC, Selim Sahin further detailed Whitney Pizzas individuality from Falcons Pizza as they are now open under the Whitney Pizza LLC.
“If you transfer of [a] LLC this is gonna be a long process and you have to, you know, you have to take whatever [debts] they [Falcon Pizza] owe… So we decided we have nothing to do with [Falcon Pizza], this is total new owners, [and] under [a] new contract with the landlord.”
As many students are now wondering, although the corporation is different the pizza will be the same.
“Same pizza, same ingredients, almost same. Like I say pizza, to me, I [have] been in this for 20 years, everybody does the pizza with dough, water, salt or yeast. You know, this is the same ingredient. If you do your job with love, you’re gonna be successful.”
Selim Sahins is excited for this opening of their second location, he also ensures safety for happy customers
“Everythings gonna be, you know, running smoothly and the way it should be. Safely, for everybody, for the environment, for the students. Up front, is most important, keeping the customers happy, keeping the students safe.”
Whitney Pizza is open and in full compliance with the Connecticut government laws as an operating company.
