Commons residents will be digging a little bit deeper into their wallets after this past weekend. According to sources, Commons has approximately $10,000 worth of damages from Friday night.
The second floor of Commons had at least 100 ceiling tiles punched out where they were later broken into pieces on the floor of the hallways. There were reports of large amounts of trash, vomit and random debris scattered on the floor.
Two study lounges also received some damage; one with broken ceiling tiles, and the other with broken furniture.
“The bathrooms looked horrible,” according to a freshman resident of Commons who asked not to be identified. “There was broken glass everywhere, ceiling tiles basically flooded the bathroom floors, garbage in the sinks and funny enough some clothes were just chilling on the bathroom door. To be honest, I really don’t think $10,000 worth of damages was made.”
Some ceiling tile debris ended up traveling as far as outside of Commons and were sprinkled around the surrounding lawn.
“The university’s Public Safety Department is investigating the damage that occurred over the weekend to ceiling tiles in three residence halls on the Mount Carmel Campus,” Associate Vice President for Public Relations John Morgan told Q30 News. “The university is assessing the damage and working to replace the tiles as quickly as possible.”
