With over 500 followers, the group GiveKindnessQU is rising in popularity on Facebook and Twitter. Senior Larisa Madison started the group in hopes of having a positive impact on the student body by promoting kindness.
“I always hear about bullying and people committing suicide because of the mean comments people are saying at schools and stuff, and I was just thinking how great would it be to start something that promoted kind things rather than mean things,” Madison said.
The group allows its followers to send positive messages anonymously to friends and other students. It also posts various positive quotes and updates throughout the day to appear on its follower’s news feeds.
Even though GiveKindnessQU is not a recognized organization on campus, it is still having a positive impact on students.
“I think in todays society especially on college campuses anytime you can get any sort of positive message out there its effective. No matter what form of social media it is I think it is going to have a good impact,” Junior Katie Dunford said.
Since the group has already succeeded in beginning to promote kindness on campus through social media, Madison can only hope that it will continue to grow.
