At the corner of Sherman Avenue and the entrance to the York Hill Campus is where Peter Lawnes, senior at Quinnipiac University, was struck by a car at 4:30 a.m. on Sunday. The reason why he was walking down that street during that time of night is unknown, but students at Quinnipiac are raising the question, is this area safe to walk and should anything be done about it?
Last week, a Quinnipiac Senior, Sara Kozlowski, got into an accident when a car hit her from the side damaging the left side of her car.
“I was driving down Sherman Ave. and I was at the corner of Sherman Avenue and Whitney right by Dunkin Donuts and this lady pulled out of the parking lot…she hit me by the drivers side door.”
Kozlowski lives on York Hill and uses her car to get to campus everyday. She believes that more needs to be done to make sure that this road is safe. Other students we spoke to also believe that more needs to be done such as implementing a cross walk or even an additional sidewalk across from the Farmington Canal Trail.
“The fact that there is no sidewalk makes it really dangerous for pedestrians and a cross walk would be even more helpful,” says Quinnipiac Senior Danny Saleem.
