After 22 Quinnipiac students got arrested this past weekend, the university sent out a warning Thursday to people living off-campus.
In the warning, Quinnipiac executive Vice President and Provost Mark Thompson says that any students who host an off-campus party that’s broken up by the Hamden Police Department will face dismissal from the university.
Some students were not happy about the policy.
“I think they should set guidelines that students have to follow instead of kicking them out of their houses,” freshman Adam Coopersmith said.
“We’re in college,” senior Giosue Importa said. “If we’re not too rowdy, there’s no problem at all.”
Neighbors of Quinnipiac students who live off campus have complained that the parties are too loud. While numerous students are outraged at the school’s reaction, others think differently.
“I feel that the school should be allowed to do whatever they want because they are a private institution,” junior Tom Chamoun said. “They certainly will do what they want and there’s nothing we can do about it.”
Quinnipiac will be working with the Hamden Police Department to reduce the amount of off-campus parties. Police and university officials say that students can host parties as long as they’re not disruptive to the community.
