The School of Communications has a new home beginning this Fall. According to an email that was sent out to all students on Tuesday by the university, “the offices and classrooms have moved into the former School of Law building.”
This change in location is part of the transition to move the School of Law to North Haven and have the School of Communications take over its former building.
“I wonder why they thought the change was necessary,” said Jacob Nadeu, Quinnipiac Senior. “I think the location change will centralize all the communication classes and students. I feel that it will be nice to have a central location.” This move is doing just that.
Dean of the School of Communications, Lee Kamlet says, “This will allow our faculty to be together under the same roof for the first time. It will also give us space where students can gather, either to study, to relax, or to collaborate amongst themselves or meet with faculty to talk about innovative ideas in their fields of communication.”
Some of the changes that students can expect is the move of the equipment loan room. The new room is expected to be three times the size of the current room. Students will also have easy access from the parking lot which means that if they have a car, they can pull up to the building and load their equipment. The big change that Kamlet is most excited about is the ability to have space for students to meet with each other and talk about ideas.
“We’ve not had that kind of space before in the School of Communications, and I think this will help solidify the relationships among students, and between students and faculty,” said Kamlet.
The studio and all the classrooms in the Ed McMahon Center will remain put for the time being. Kamlet said the only challenge will be, “having to manage the split between the two buildings.” Overall he believes this is a big boost for the school and that it will benefit students and faculty immediately, with the beginning of the fall semester.
