It’s no surprise that Quinnipiac students are always connected. But recently, the desire to connect even more has led to a new trend: Quinnipiac parody accounts, on Twitter.
“I’m not really sure how many there are,” freshman Nicole Geer said. “But as many as there are, I try to follow them.”
From Quinnipiac problems to QU crushes, almost a dozen parody accounts have been created throughout the past year. The accounts showcase how students feel, who and what they like and what jokes are floating around campus.
“I think they’re pretty funny,” sophomore Dylan Kiel said. “Like the one QU Crush…some of the people I know, so I can relate.”
Relatable seems to be the key word when trying to figure out what students like most about the accounts. Some students told Q30 News the accounts are fun to read because it’s fun to see what other people think about the school.
“It’s fun to play with this parody account,” Quinnipiac professor and expert in social media Sang Nam said. “And I think (students) are trying to make good laughs out of their student life.”
Nam said students might find making the parody accounts appealing because it allows them to leave a digital footprint, while protecting their identity.
Despite a new parody account that lets students know when there are fresh cookies in the cafeteria, the most popular account followers-wise is “Quinnipiac Problems,” which has 4,513 followers.
