Q30 Newscast: New Student Artists Club, SGA Mental Health Initiative and Gubernatorial Forum

Ethan Logue and Samantha Perelli host this week’s newscast and have all the updates. Vanessa Blasi has information on a new mental health initiative to assist student athletes proposed by the Student Government Association’s class of 2024 president. From the desk, Samantha shares details on this year’s Fall Fest, including activities and this year’s headliner, and Ethan talks about QTHON’s recruitment week.
Olivia Kettell spoke with an engineering professor to learn more about a recent project to raise awareness about storm water pollution in a Hamden neighborhood. Samantha has information on this year’s campus flu shot clinics and Ethan recaps a moderated discussion hosted this past week to teach students about ethics in communications. Katie Coen has the story on a Quinnipiac student who recently started a new club, Student Artist League, on campus for artists.
Ethan has information on a gubernatorial forum hosted at Quinnipiac and Olivia Kettell spoke with a journalism professor who explained why these events are beneficial for students to attend. Samantha and Ethan share statewide updates on 2021 crime statistics and new laws that will go into effect in Conn. on Oct. 1.
Mason Glod is in the studio to give political news updates including President Biden’s student debt cancellation plan, a recent Senate spending bill and a new strategy from the White House to end hunger by 2030. Hephzibah Rajan also joins the newscast to share this upcoming week’s weather update as well as weather around the state. Haley Wynne gives a national news update including updates on Hurricane Ian and the New Haven family taking legal action against their local police department.
We also have Fiona Stevens and Keith Savage in the studio to give updates on entertainment and sports respectively. Fiona shares all the information on a recent mental health initiative started by rapper Megan Thee Stallion, the re-release of 2009 film “Avatar” and Lizzo’s recent concert performance where she made history. Keith has details on Quinnipiac field hockey, women’s ice hockey and men’s volleyball. To close the show, Tim Malone visited a Cheshire apple orchard and has the story on the local business.
