Quinnipiac University will move forward with the plan to build a new School of Business in the new “South Quad.” The Board of Trustees approved $244 million for the construction of the school along with a new general academic building and a new residence hall.

According to the School of Business Dean Holly Raider, this building will serve students in a positive way and further promote the ambition they have.

“I hope that when the building is open, that students from all across the university will find that they have a home in the school of business to learn entrepreneurship, to learn finance, to learn accounting,” Raider said. “And that we bring to life in that space the great possibilities of interdisciplinary learning that is possible at Quinnipiac.”

Raider believes the space will be “vibrant” and “inviting,” while also upholding the key principle of inclusivity. The space will include an innovation hub, a financial technology center, faculty offices and an event space that can seat up to 150 people.

Throughout the pandemic, the construction plans have also accounted for current ideas of space between individuals.

“We’re designing the building with the present and future in mind and we have the great fortune of designing a building…and taking into account the way that our space needs may be different than had we designed the building five or six years ago,” Raider said. “I think that this is actually a perfect time to be embarking on this and to be considering how our spaces are going to need to be flexible and adaptive for the future, but also innovative.”

With prospects of the new building, some School of Business students are concerned about the environmental impact this construction will bring considering the pine grove will be cut down.

“The environment is at stake,” Owena Roberts said. “We’re working on sustainability… they shouldn’t chop down trees for a building.”

As of now the existing School of Business is standing tall and there is no word on what the university plans to do with it. The construction is said to be completed by 2024.
