The Quinnipiac women’s basketball team traveled to the Mass Mutual Center very early on Sunday morning, but it paid off for them as they came away with a 79-68 win over the top-seeded Gaels of Iona College.
Jasmine Martin and Brittany McQuain each contributed 17 points for the Bobcats in the win. Samantha Guastella added 12 points.
It was a slow game on the offensive end for both teams in the first half as Iona and Quinnipiac were tied 24-24 at the break.
That would all change as Quinnipiac scored basket-after-basket that helped to lead them to the win.
Iona’s Damika Martinez and Joy Adams scored a combined 52 points for Iona, but Quinnipiac was able to put them ion foul trouble early in the game that took them out in the second half, which helped the Bobcats on both ends of the floor.
Quinnipiac advances to the MAAC Championship game on Monday at 2 p.m. at the Mass Mutual Center to attempt to end the long championship-winning streak of the Marist Red Foxes.
