Days after extending women’s ice hockey head coach Cassandra Turner’s contract, Quinnipiac locked up another corner stone of its athletic program, Tricia Fabbri. After leading the Bobcats to their third straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championship game, Quinnipiac Director of Athletics and Recreation Greg Amodio decided to extend the contract of the all-time winningest head coach in Quinnipiac women’s basketball history to the 2020-2021.
“Tricia Fabbri has proven to be one of the top women’s college basketball coaches in the country,” Amodio said in a press release. “During her tenure in Hamden, Quinnipiac has grown into one of the top mid-major programs in NCAA Division I women’s basketball and has become a national brand through five consecutive postseason tournament appearances.”
The two time defending MAAC Coach of the Year has led the Bobcats to five straight seasons of 20 or more wins. After losing the entire starting lineup following the 2014-2015 season, Fabbri’s success continued with a youthful roster, including MAAC Rookie of the Year, rising sophomore, Aryn McClure.
Quinnipiac also won its first national postseason game in program history, beating Maine in the first round of the 2016 Women’s National Invitation Tournament.
Entering her 22nd season, Fabbri is more excited than ever to coach this Quinnipiac squad.
“I’m humbled by the continued opportunity to lead the women’s basketball program at this prestigious university.” she said during a press release. “Thank you President Lahey, Executive Vice President and Provost Mark Thompson and Director of Athletics and Recreation Greg Amodio for five more years of doing what I love to do, at a place I call home.”
Fabbri’s daughter, Carly, is currently a rising junior on the team. With this extension, Fabbri is now on board until after her daughter graduates.
Fabbri has accomplished numerous accolades during her time in Hamden, including being one of only five Quinnipiac head coaches to reach 300 victories. Sporting a young starting lineup, the future remains bright for her squad.
