The brightest stars and the biggest fans of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) gathered at the Renaissance Hotel in Albany, New York on Friday March, 4 for the MAAC Regular Season Award Show. The Quinnipiac women’s basketball team was crowned with three awards, one of which was already known.
The team earned itself the regular season championship trophy after defeating Iona Sunday Feb., 28. The Bobcats went 17-3 in MAAC play this season, and ended the year on a 17-game winning streak. This makes it two straight regular season titles for the Bobcats.
Freshman Aryn McClure took home the MAAC Rookie of the Year award. McClure had a stellar freshman campaign for the Bobcats. She led the team with 203 total rebounds on the season, and came second in assists with 61. McClure finished the year averaging 8.3 points per game.
Last but most certainly not least, head coach Tricia Fabbri was the recipient of the MAAC Coach of the Year award. It is the second time in Fabbri’s career that she has brought home the illustrious honor. Fabbri continued her winning ways in the 2015-16 season by coaching her team to a 23-7 overall record, and a quarterfinal MAAC Tournament win against Niagara.
The Bobcats took home a lot of hardware, but all of the players will tell you that the trophy case will look vacant if Quinnipiac isn’t hoisting another trophy come Monday. Standing in the Bobcats way of a second consecutive MAAC Tournament final appearance is a matchup against the winner of the Fairfield vs. Monmouth game. That contest is to be played on Saturday March 5 at 2:30 pm.
