More fuel has been added to the fire in the ongoing battle between Quinnipiac and Hamden. Hamden police are now required to file reports on all complaints associated with noise, loud music and parties.
According to the New Haven Register, Hamden Police Chief Thomas Wydra sent a message last week to all Hamden officers mandating them to file reports for all noise and party complaints.
Even though Quinnipiac students are known in Hamden for being disruptive, Wydra says the new policy isn’t directed solely at Quinnipiac students.
“We are not targeting anybody. This is just tightening things up a little bit for me,” Wydra said.
Wydra says that the new policy has been put into effect so that specific people and properties with a history of complaints can be tracked down more easily.
Subjects of complaints will be entered into the department’s database so that Hamden Police can keep tabs on which residents and properties are consistently being complained about. Then appropriate action will be taken against them.
Hamden Police has a close relationship with Quinnipiac’s Public Safety department and if a student is arrested or has a pattern of bad behavior, the school will be contacted Wydra says.
Wydra says there are more noise complaints in the beginning of the semester but they decrease as students work loads increase over the course of the semester.
