Quinnipiac ice hockey senior day did not go as planned for the Bobcats as the Colgate University Raiders left High Point Solutions Arena Saturday night with a 3-1 victory.
The Raiders entered the game off of a victory over Princeton on Friday while the Bobcats went into the contest off of a 2-1 loss to Cornell.
The Colgate victory and Quinnipiac loss on Friday created a second place tie in the ECAC standings between the two squads entering Saturday’s tilt.
The game remained scoreless through the first period, before the Raiders finally broke through. Tylor Spink scored unassisted nine minutes into the frame to out Colgate on the board.
Less than two minutes later Connor Jones redirected a Matt Peca shot and scored to tie the game at one. But the Raiders struck again halfway through the third period to regain a one goal lead.
Quinnipiac had chances to tie the contest through the final ten minutes, but Colgate buried an empty net goal off the stick of Darcy Murphy to push the margin to two.
Quinnipiac goaltender Michael Garteig made 21 saves in his 8th loss of the season, while Charlie Finn stopped 31 shots between the pipes for the Raider victory.
The loss made it three in a row and four out five for the Bobcats as the Raiders clinched a top four position for the upcoming ECAC playoffs.
Quinnipiac gets back at it for one final series this coming weekend when they travel to St. Lawrence and Clarkson as Colgate hosts Harvard and Dartmouth to cap off it’s season.
